Term 3, Week 8 2023
From the Principal
The Friday evening before Fathers Day we saw a true expression of our Christ the King community. We were blessed with many dads, grandads, uncles and men who hold a fathering role in attendance, supported by many women and children. The BBQ was an opportunity for gathering, sharing, catching up and meeting new people. We thank the P&F for all their organisation in the lead up to the day and know that the gift bags shared on Sunday morning were chosen and created with love.
The Lord bless you and keep you: the Lord makes his face shine on you…and give you peace.

Next week our Year 4 students will complete their Religious Literacy Assessment Tool (ReLAT) online test.
Religious Education (RE) is a core Learning Area in all Catholic schools. It is a foundation for all learning and is integrated into the life of the school through prayer, liturgy and social justice programs.
The test is based on general religious knowledge gained from participation in RE lessons and the religious dimension of the Catholic school. The assessment is not a measure of a child’s faith nor their participation in the broader life of the Catholic community. It is important to draw upon a variety of assessment strategies in order to develop a comprehensive picture of a child’s progress and understanding in Religious Education.
The ReLAT assessment tool is an online multiple-choice test with 35 questions. Children are given up to an hour to complete the test.
The data from the ReLAT assessment is collated and used by us to inform whole-of-school professional learning needs and the continuous improvement of teaching in Religious Education. Individual results are made available to individual student’s parents. An individual ReLAT report for parents is provided to complement the school report.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF MATHS
We have been learning and practicing lots of great games in our maths lessons. We recently learnt a new game called ‘Tug of War’ where two students play off against each other using addition and subtraction. For this game you will need a long board with the numbers 1-27 on it, two dice and a small figurine to move up and down the board. The goal is to get the figurine to your end of the board. The figurine starts on number 17. The first person rolls the two dice and adds their numbers together- they then move forward that many spaces. This person is working with addition. Their partner then rolls the dice, adds the two numbers together and moves the figure backwards that many numbers. This person is working with subtraction. You repeat this process until someone manages to get their figurine on to the blank part of the game board (past 1 and 27). We had a great time learning this new game and really stretched our maths muscles with all the addition and subtraction sums.
If you have a pack of UNO cards at home you have a world of maths games at your fingertips. One game we like to play with UNO cards is flipping over two cards to see which person can make the biggest number. If you are feeling brave you may like to add a third pile to your hand and make three-digit numbers. To change the game up you could try to make the lowest number instead. The winner of the hand gets to keep the cards.
If there is no one to play with why not try flipping over two UNO cards and adding them? Or subtracting the lower number from the higher number? You will need to make sure you take out all the ‘extra’ cards (+2, draw four etc) when you play these games.
My favourite maths game we play is the UNO game. I get really excited when I win but kinda grumpy when I don’t. Sam
I like playing with the Woolworths figures on the ‘Tug of War’ game. Leo W
I am going to teach my Mum and sister how to play the bigger/smaller UNO game. It is good fun. Lacey
I like having three piles of cards to play the UNO game- this makes the numbers heaps higher. You get to make numbers in the hundreds. Eli
My favourite game is ‘Tug of War’ because 1 person did subtraction and 1 person did addition. There was only one figure so only one person could win. Aarya
‘Tug of War’ is my favourite game because 1 person needs to go up and the other person needs to go down. Liam N
I like it when you pick up the cards and you have the highest number. Then you get to win and keep the cards. Liam M
‘Tug of War’ because it sounds like tug of war and it is good fun using the characters. Will
UNO- because I like it when you pick up good cards and you win the game. You can play the game for as long as you like. Henry
