CATHOLIC SCHOOLS MUSIC FESTIVAL
Our Year 5 and Year 6 students are currently in the final stages of preparation for the Catholic Schools Music Festival to be held at the Adelaide Festival Theatre on 29 September. Matt Young has been working with the group and they are sounding sensational. We are looking forward to hearing a ‘sneak peek’ of them performing at upcoming School Assemblies. Tickets are still available via the Festival Theatre.
THANK YOU
I extend a thank you to our community members before and after school for the way that our road users and motorists fare now using drop off and pick up procedures. These are now much safer for our students. Thank you for looking after our students and community members.
HIGHLIGHTS REMAINING FOR THE TERM
There are still many highlights of the term remaining with lots of exciting opportunities and events to look forward to:
- Yr 3 – 6 Touch Football Carnival on 5 September
- Sacrament of Reconciliation Celebration on 21 September

The Season of Creation is a month long prayerful observance that calls the planet's 2.2 billion Christians to pray and care for God's creation. It's a time to reflect on our relationship with the environment — not just "distant" nature, but, crucially, the place where we live — and the ways in which our lifestyles and decisions as a society can endanger both the natural world and those inhabiting it, both humans and other creatures.
The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.
The Season of Creation is supported by a number of leading Christian organizations and churches: Orthodox Christians, Lutheran, Anglican, Uniting, World Council of Churches, Christian Aid, the Lutheran World Federation, the Anglican Communion Environmental Network, the Global Catholic Climate Movement and the Vatican's Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development.
The Season of Creation spans 34 days.
It begins Sept. 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. It concludes Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.
More recently, the Season of Creation has become a more ecumenical celebration among all Christians. And the past few years have seen it gain traction among Catholics. For that, you can point to Pope Francis in his 2015 encyclical "Laudato Si', on Care for Our Common Home
As a community we will gather on Friday to launch the Season at our regular monthly mass. Children from across the school will lead us along with Fr. Michael. All members of our community their family and friends are always invited to join us for our masses.

BOOKWEEK
Once again we celebrated the joy of ‘BOOKS’ in a variety of ways across Book Week.
The parade launched the week with colour, cheering and smiles. We had a wide variety of costumes and many although simple were full of thought and smarts!
The week continued with activities around shared books, a ‘Where’s Wally’ treasure hunt and quiz, a whole school prayer service centred on the Bible and a thank you for ‘Words and Book’. We rounded the week off with a shared Buddy time with reading and recess on the courts.
Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for your enthusiasm and participation.
LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP
A fun and free activity for the upcoming holidays would be to join the Library.
How do I Join the Library

The blossom is back and so are the +3 UV rays. We know the temperature and sunshine are not an indicator of UV Rays so we wear hats everyday from the 1st of September.
VISUAL ARTS/DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY PAPER MACHE ART PROJECT
We researched 'Paper mâché animals (using balloons). Students then selected one or got some ideas for what they wanted to create.
They designed their paper mâché animal and then began the making the animal - lots of newspaper and glue!!!
My paper mâché animal is an elephant. I enjoy making paper mâché because we get to use glue and paper and stick it all over a balloon. I'm excited to decorate it and make it look good.
Krisala
In Visual Arts, we are making a paper mâché animal. I am making a penguin because I like the movie 'Penguins of Madagascar' and I based it on my favourite character Rico.
Samuel T
My paper mâché animal is a clown fish. First we made our designs, then we blew up balloons, got some glue and started sticking paper on the balloon. We have to do many layers of this. I can't wait to decorate it.
Sam C
For my paper mâché art design, I chose to make a cat. The cat's name is Chubby Brownie and he is a calico cat. His eyes are green and his body is black, white and orange. I chose a cat because I really love cats and I met the cat I am making. I am enjoying the gluing mess and sticking the newspaper on.
Sonia
I am making a fat bird for the paper mache project. I chose a fat bird because as soon as I saw it, I knew that's what I wanted to do. I love the feeling of the glue and sometimes I like to dip my whole hand in there. I like sitting with my friends when we do it.

Congratulations to Lachlan from Year 2 for completing his 100th parkrun.
Parkrun is a free weekly 5km timed event where you can run, walk, jog or volunteer. It happens all over the world on a Saturday - Australia has 400 parkruns scattered around the country. Lachlan ran the whole way (5km) in 26min 28 secs, which was 1 second off his personal best. Lachlan's family participate every Saturday morning and Lachlan is a much loved member of the parkrun community at Christies Beach. He even did a parkrun in Singapore when his family visited last year.
Completing 100 parkruns is considered a milestone and those reaching a milestone are celebrated at every parkrun. Lachlan now has a parkrun milestone tshirt - the much-coveted black ‘100’ shirt. Well done Lachlan!
Congratulations to Matilda from Year 5 for her achievements on a recent trip to Sydney for diving.
She participated in 5 events.
- 10-12 years platform. Placed 6th.
- Team Synchro. Placed 2nd
- Springboard. Placed 4th
- Knockout. Placed 6th
- 10-12 year synchro. Placed 5th
Matilda received personal best for 4 dives. There was also an educational component. Children from all ages and all states were allocated teams (based on average age). They had to find their teammates, plan a dive list, and perform synchro with each team member. Matilda had to dive with much older divers that she had not met before. She helped out with some of the Medal Ceremonies and had a turn at doing commentary for the live stream. Well done Matilda!
