Term 2, Week 2 2024
Hello Friends
A very warm welcome to Term 2. The Autumn weather has certainly been great to see and I trust that the term holiday break was a good and safe one for you and the family.
I thank families for the feedback provided regarding our new uniform. Our school bag, reading folders, hat and raincoat are not changing.
As we transition from Summer to Winter uniform, please remember that students are to wear either their current sports uniform or school uniform to allow for any uniform purchases that have been made to be worn. I do ask however that regardless of the uniform that students are wearing to school it needs to be the correct version of that uniform. Also please remember that any earrings being worn to school need to be silver or gold stud or sleeper style earrings.
AusKick
Our first AusKick session was held on Tuesday 7 May for our Reception and Year 1 students. They had a fantastic time and limited spots are currently still available.
Motorist’s behaviour around our School
I remind all motorists to be fastidiously aware of children and pedestrians around the school at pick up and drop off times. Allowing children to enter or exit a vehicle that is NOT parked ie stopping in the road, blocks traffic, is dangerous and is against the law. SAPOL patrols can be present during our pickup and drop off times. Please note that if children need to cross the road, they need do it safely and appropriately. Thanks for helping to keep our children and community members safe.
Mother’s Day
Our Mothers’ (and special people) Day stall and High Tea will occur on Friday 10 May. The children are getting very excited about purchasing items at the stall and I look forward to seeing our mums and special people in the School Hall from 3pm. RSVPs have officially closed for this event.
Year 6 Canberra Trip
As I write this newsletter there are only 29 school days until our Yr 6 students head off to Canberra. I wanted to thank the school community for supporting the Yr 6 fundraising efforts through purchasing the Jelly in a Cup last term. Our Yr 6 students and their families appreciate it.
We should be in constant evolution and adapt to the new without ever losing our essence or our integrity
Thanks and Blessings

Do we ever take time to think about Mary the Mother of Jesus? We often skim over the words ’MOTHER of JESUS’ and see her as a holy saint. In this week, in which we celebrate all mothers, grandmothers/omas/nana/yayas/bibis….,aunts, adopted grandparents, sisters and women who hold a mothering role… come with me and take a few minutes to think of Mary the mother. This image epitomises her as a women and mother and is one of my favourite paintings.
We know the story of the birth announcement and birth. But let’s consider the rest of her life:
- She raised Jesus… can we credit her with some of his attributes. She would have instilled in him basic empathy, compassion, manners and observations skills from an early age as all mothers do.
- She no doubt taught him right from wrong and how to execute it.
- She was the one who gave him his first nudge into his ministry at the wedding of Cana.
- She set him free to wander the Holy Lands for 3 years without calling him to care for her.
- She witnessed him speaking to thousands and worried no doubt about where his future lay.
- She was there each day of Holy Week. She knew the prophecies and would no doubt have been terrified for her Son.
- She bravely and with a breaking heart sat at the base of the cross and watched her Son die.
- She lived the rest of her life spreading the story living within another family's home.
Mothers are amazing people and suffer many worries, terrors, joys, hopefully not as deep as Mary’s but I invite you to have empathy for Mary and celebrate her along with all Mums and special women this coming week.
ANZAC DAY -School Captains
Each year we are ably represented at the Brighton RSL ANZAC Day Dawn Service by our school captains. This year Stephanie and Christopher (proudly wearing his Great Grandfather’s medal) attended and laid a wreath in the name of Christ the King School. They arrived before 5.30am to collect the wreath and receive final instructions. They moved forward when called, laid the wreath, stood and gave quiet respect and then moved back to their families.
Many of our families and extended community members attended the service and commented how pleased they were to see us represented.
We thank the Brighton RSL for giving us the opportunity to be involved in this most important event.
WAYS TO PRAY- A SERIES
Ask For God’s Will
The Lord’s Prayer is not the only place where Jesus role-modelled a willingness to accept the will of God. In the Garden of Gethsemane only hours before his death through crucifixion, he prayed, ‘not my will but your will be done’. We know for certain that God loves us and listens to us and answers but not always in the way we could like it to be.
UNIFORM REMINDERS
Families are reminded that our uniform policy calls for students to have nails free of nail polish. Please ensure all polish is removed before students attend school.
For safety students are to wear small discreet stud earrings or small sleepers. Earrings that have dangles or are larger loops can lead to accidents during play.

Dear Parents
This Friday 10th May is National Walk Safely to School Day.
(We will celebrate on the 17th May 2024)
We would encourage you all to get on board and walk to school if you can. All students will receive a sticker and healthy fruit snack when they arrive at school on the day (even OSHC students).
Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school.
- If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop.
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 17th May 2024!
MEETING PLACE for CTK:
You are invited to meet us at Ballara Park (Ormonde Ave and Ballara Ave) departing 8:25am SHARP and walk to school with your parents and teachers from there!
Year 5 Science Excursion
The Year 5 students visited the Oaklands Wetlands Reserve on Tuesday morning as a part of their studies in Science.
Students had the opportunity to observe animals in the wetland and learn about the wetlands’ creation of a clean water supply to many outdoor spaces. The students enjoyed a walk in the sunshine and listening to the Manager of the wetlands, Mr Glynn Ricketts, explain his work and the management of this special environment.
The students would like to thank parents, Kelly and Courtney for accompanying them and Glynn for leading our tour and providing us with interesting scientific and environmental information.
