Term 2, Week 10 2024
Hello Friends
As I write this newsletter article there are four school days remaining with students finishing school on Thursday, 4 July and staff returning on 5 July for professional development and i remind families that 5 July is a Pupil Free Day. For families requiring care on this day, Camp Australia is providing an OSHC service. Please use the Camp Australia portal to secure your place.
Gum Tree adjacent the Courtyard
A recent arborist report conducted on the trees in our schoolyard highlighted the need to have the large gum tree on the eastern end of the courtyard removed. We have made the decision to remove this tree as per the arborist recommendation. We envisage this work will occur during the school holidays and three trees will be planted, as per council regulations in the place of this large tree being removed. This was a difficult decision to make as the tree is a significant focal point of our school perimeter however for safety’s sake the action needs to take place.
Canberra Trip 2024
Last week our Yr 6 students travelled to the Nation’s capital to visit various landmarks and venues such as Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport, Questacon and many other famous landmarks and destinations. We received so much positive feedback about our school leasers’ behaviour and demeanour and despite the temperatures reaching subzero overnight everyone was in great spirits and enjoyed the trip immensely. I thank Anne Marie Hall for coordinating the trip, Meri Blake for attending the three-day trip and Niamh McKeough for all of the financial work associated with this trip.
Lost Property
If your child is missing any items of clothing or school resources, the lost property box which is located at the bottom of the internal staircase, is always a good place to start looking. The upcoming holidays is a great time to take students items home to be cleaned or washed such as hats and it is always a great idea to check at the very bottom of students’ schoolbags as there is quite often a ‘surprise’ that has been in the schoolbag for quite some time.
Staffing News
We welcome to our ESO Curriculum team, Joel Saunders, Sophie Cook and Jorjia Kleemann. We look forward to the work they will continue to do with our students across the school and the support they offer to our teachers. Welcome to Christ the King School.
Holiday Downtime
I trust that the holidays provide some downtime for students where they can take a break from the ‘hurley burley’ of school life and recharge the batteries ready for Term 3. During these cooler school holidays, it’s always great if families can head to public library to share a library book or activity, or head somewhere warm. Conversely a walk in the park or along the beach is also a great winter activity. I wish all our CTK families a safe and happy break and look forward to seeing everyone back here on July 22 for our first day of school for Term 3.
Optimism with some experience behind it is much more energizing than plain old experience with a certain degree of cynicism. Twyla Tharp
