Term 1, Week 9 2024
Hello Friends
We are celebrating Holy Week this week in our school. This is a very special week indeed, in the Church and our school calendar. Holy Week finishes for us this Thursday as we will witness our Yr 6 Class lead our school in a very special re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross.
I take this opportunity to wish our families and community members a very holy, happy and safe Easter break.
Sports Day
I drove home from Sports Day with a tremendous feeling of pride and happiness. The day was a great day for our community and the students did an exceptional job of competing for their teams and displaying that ‘Jim Murphy’ sense of spirit – well done.
Our Sport Captains did an amazing job of leading their teams, during the health hustle, march past and indeed throughout the day.
I extend a huge thanks to our Parents and Friends groups for the sausage sizzle, doughnuts and drinks and preparing and cooking on the day. Thanks also to Beck’s Bakehouse – Somerton Park for supplying the donuts on the day. Thanks also, to our parents and community members for their support and cheering on the day.
Well done and congratulations to our Sports Captains:
Blue: Tawana and Madi
Gold: Chris and Macey
Green: Samuel and Neve

Following newsletters will contain an item called ‘Board Talk’ outlining some of the content of the School Board Meetings.
Environmental News
Our Yr 6 class does a wonderful job in completing community service each week and emptying bins and keeping our school environmentally sustainable. One of the biggest challenges that we face in our school from an environmental point of view is the amount of soft plastic that comes into our school yard. The soft plastic comes in the form of wrappers and other items. I wonder if there is a better way for us to send children to school with recess and lunch items that don’t include soft plastic? This could be the supply of hard plastic or recyclable containers with food in them or using aluminium foil or other recyclable items to wrap food. Small steps in our school and household can have a positive effect on our environment.
Year level/Class Assemblies
I invite you to attend our Year Level Assemblies held each fortnight at 2.30pm in the School Hall. Our next Assembly is scheduled for Tuesday 9 April, hosted by our talented Yr 3 class.
Assemblies recommence in Term 2 after this in Week 2 – 7th May.
I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.
Thanks and Easter Blessings

This weekend Christians around the world celebrate the holiest of holy. People will gather for the commemoration of ‘the Last Supper’ and witness the washing of the feet. Millions around the world will take part in ‘The Stations of the Cross’ inside church and in circuits outside. Many will gather at 3pm on Good Friday to commemorate Jesus’ passion and Churches will be overflowing with worshippers celebrating Jesus’ resurrection at Easter Sunday Mass. Many thousands of adults who have completed their ‘Rite of Christian Initiation’ adult studies will become Catholics on Holy Saturday night Mass. This beautiful mass often includes darkness, candlelight and flames symbolising that Jesus is truly the LIGHT of the world.
Here at school, we have been retelling the stories of Holy Week using the story- BENJAMIN’S BOX. Each class has had a set of 12 eggs with each containing a symbol of the stories. Each day the class opens an egg, reads the story for that day and reflect on the ‘What, Who and Why’ of Holy Week. This is a different way of entering this holiest of weeks and allows students to take the story at their own pace.
On Thursday (March 28th), we invite the whole community to join us as the Yr.6 class leads us in our own interpretation of the Stations of the Cross. This solemn and moving re-enactment is one I strongly invite you to attend.
How ever you as a family commemorates the Easter story and celebrates the long weekend I wish you a safe and joyous break and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday as we begin the 50 days of the Easter Season.

WAYS TO PRAY- A SERIES
Thank God
A heartfelt thank you is always a great conversation starter. Like any mentor/parent/friends, God loves to see that we have grateful hearts. But more importantly, as we take the time to thank God for all that has been done for us such as the answered prayers, healing and grace- our faith to believe for even greater grace grows stronger.
