Term 1, Week 7 2023
Hello Friends,
I trust that you enjoyed a great long weekend and managed to enjoy some down time and catch up with family and friends. This term has gone by so quickly and it's incredible to think that 33 school days have come and gone.
I take this opportunity to thank our school community for the well wishes and congratulatory messages and emails regarding my substantive appointment last week as Principal of our school. I am excited by the opportunity and look forward to working with all members of the school community over the coming years.
Annual General Meeting
Our school’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 23 March. Our classrooms will be open from 6.30pm to provide the opportunity for parents and caregivers to see the pedagogy behind the learning that takes place in the classroom. Teachers will be in their rooms to explain the ‘how’ of teaching in their learning space. Following this, our AGM will begin at 7pm in the school hall. A creche will be available from 6.30pm – 8pm.
If you need to access the creche, can you please register your interest at info@christking.catholic.edu.au

Parents and Friends Events
There are some upcoming P&F events to be on the lookout for. Our School’s Easter Raffle will be launched over the coming days, so be on the lookout for your tickets. Our Crazy Hair Fundraiser occurs on the final day of Term 1 – 14 April.
Swimming Week 27 March – 31 March
Our Year 2 – Year 5 students will take part in the Swimming Week. Please make yourself familiar with times and permission notes.
Whatever we are waiting for - peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance - it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart.
Thanks and Blessings

PPLs – Personalised Plan for Learning
Currently class teachers are putting together a personalised plan for learning for some students across the school. These plans support students in the school who may have a disability or require some extra learning support. Once these are complete teachers will make a time with parents to discuss them and outline what support, adjustments or interventions have been put in place. These meetings will take place in week 10 and 11 and teachers will contact parents directly to organise a time.
NAPLAN 2023
Our year 3 and 5 students have begun the NAPLAN testing this week, beginning with the Writing test. The assessments will occur across week 7 and 8 with our final catch up test being next Thursday 23rd March. The tests are completed earlier this year compared to previous tests in the hope that teachers will receive results by the middle of the year. This will enable them to set learning goals and focuses for the second semester.
Along with the earlier test dates, the test results will reported in a new format –
NEW PROFICIENCY STANDARDS FOR NAPLAN
More meaningful reporting to parents and carers
From this year, parents and carers will get earlier, simpler and clearer information about their child’s NAPLAN achievement based on new, more rigorous national standards. Education ministers have agreed to change the way NAPLAN results are reported to parents and carers, now that all students are taking the tests online, and with the move to an earlier NAPLAN in March. New proficiency standards with 4 levels of achievement for each year level will replace the previous 10-band structure that covered all 4 levels tested and the old national minimum standard set in 2008 when tests were on paper. The new proficiency standards include a baseline benchmark to identify students who are likely to need additional support.
NAPLAN INDIVIDUAL STUDENT REPORT
The numerical NAPLAN bands and the national minimum standard will be replaced by the following 4 levels of achievement:
- Exceeding
- Strong
- Developing
- Needs additional support.
The descriptors for each category will make it clear to parents what their child’s literacy and numeracy skills are at the time of NAPLAN testing, and support discussions with their school on their child’s progress.

R-2 Phonics Night - Wednesday 5th April 7pm
Included in this newsletter is an invitation to all parents in R-2 to attend a Reading night where we introduce our new phonics approach in R-2 this year. We are very excited by this new initiative and hope to share our beliefs, understandings, and the program content with you. We are unable to film the event, but can send you the PowerPoint and information from the night if you are unable to attend.
There will be a creche available on the night in the RBL room if it is required. A notice on Skoolbag will come out soon regarding RSVPs for the evening. The session will go for no longer than an hour.

Library Games
During scheduled lunchtimes the library opens for quiet activities. The marble run, train set and foam blocks get a real workout. If you are involved in a clean out at anytime and would like to donate partner games- Guess Who, Uno, Connect Four etc. to an appreciative group of students ,we would love your donations. Just drop them off in the APRIM Office anytime during the year.
Class Libraries
Our library is always looking for clean preloved picture books and novels. Books donated will have a donation plaque placed in the front in recognition. Currently we are looking for books to stock class libraires, we are especially looking for series and books by the same author. We are also on the lookout for mysteries- Secret Seven, Hardy Boys etc. that have been rereleased with modern covers.
