Term 1, Week 11 2023
Hello Friends
I trust that your Easter was a joyful one and provided an opportunity to connect with family and loved ones. There are only a couple of days remaining in this term and two shorter weeks to complete the term seemed an opportune time for students to see out what has been a very full term of learning and co-curricular activities.
Crazy Hair Day
Crazy Hair Day is this Friday, the final day of this term and we are asking for donations to the Christ the King School Care Pantry. Items from the pantry will be used to assist our families who are in need of food items. This is a great way to help our community members in need.
Pupil Free Day – 1 May 2023
I remind community members that 1 May is a Pupil Free Day here at school. Teachers and staff will be working in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy and in particular with Anne Bayetto.
Camp Australia will be offering an OSHC service on this day and this can be accessed through the Camp Australia portal.
Lost Property
There are many items in the Lost Property Box at present. Many items are unlabelled. If you are missing an item from home, this could be a good place to check. The Lost Property is on display outside the Sports Shed near the courtyard. If your child comes home from school with someone else's property, plese return it to school so we can return it tthe correct person.
School Hats in Term 2
The wearing of hats in Term 2 will be dependent on the UV rating each day. For the first part of Term 2 it would be worthwhile having hats at school in case the UV rating is 4 or above.
I look forward to seeing our families back at school for Term 2 and wish everyone a safe and connecting holiday break.
Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of the event.

Thanks and Blessings

Easter is a time for many things for many people- catch up, mass attendance, travel, camping, chocolate, relaease from lenten pledge and promises etc.
What does it mean to you? How did you celebrate the 4 day break? For some of our communty it was not a break at all but a time for work shifts, caring roles and observations.
At school we will continue to celebrate Easter for the full 50 days of the season. We will end our Easter with a celebration of Pentecost, also known as the birth of the church.
Some easter facts
- Easter begins on Easter Sunday
- The season lasts for 50 days.
- Easter Sunday is the oldest Holy Day
- Easter Sunday s the first full moon after the 21st of March
- The liturgical colours are white and gold (yellow)
- The easter Orthodox calculate using the Julian calendar and adjust the date for Passover
SACRAMENTS
The students wishing to continue their Journey to full initiation in the Catholic Church by completing their Confirmation and First Communion preparation have received their enrolment forms. Please return the forms to the APRIM office as soon as possible. The first parent information session is Tuesday May 2nd.
Those families who wish to commence the programme will receive information in future newsletters. All Year 4 students will receive an enrolment form for the preparation for the Sacrament of reconciliation in Term 3.
BAPTISM
Families who are interested in baptism for their child or themselves can approach myself or the St Joseph’s parish for a conversation. Each year we help families of school aged children (and younger siblings) to prepare and receive Baptism. Please feel free to have an initial conversation with me about the process and support for the next step.

Library Card
A fun and free activity during the upcoming holidays is to go and join the local library. There are more than 130 libraries in SA and they are all connected. The same card works in all of them.
You can borrow a book from any of them with the same card and if you are travelling you can borrow from any or return a book to any- even when you return home.
You can join online, but, a face to face visit may be a great day out for the family.
Once you are a member, you can borrow or access:
- digital content (eBooks, Audiobooks, digital magazines and online training videos)
- books (adult and children's)
- magazines
- DVDs and CDs
- materials in other languages
- toys and sports equipment (note: only available at some libraries)
South Australia’s libraries also offer access to:
- computers
- free Internet and WiFi
- study areas
- laminating, photocopying, printing, scanning and faxing services (note: only available at some libraries)

Reading in the holidays
The holidays are a great time for students to get some extra reading done – for pleasure and practice. This could include reading school readers, sharing a book together, visiting a library and borrowing books, reading with or to a sibling, re-creating an illustration of a character from a book or reading a book and watching the matching film.
Discussions with your child about what they are reading including characters, setting, predictions and feelings is important. Below are some discussion points that could be useful.
Students may borrow books from the school library for the holidays and take home a set of readers. High frequency word practice, handwriting and story writing is also encouraged when students are ‘bored’!!!
Have a great break.

In year One with Ms Hannah Winter we have been learning about skip counting. We are practicing skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We are using 120 frames to mark our skip counting and have been looking for patterns within the numbers. Here are some of the things we have noticed:
Samuel - When I skip count by 2’s I think of the number 2 in your head and then I add on two more.
Rian - When we skip count by 2’s they are all even numbers. 10 ends in 0, 12 ends in 2, 14 ends in 4, 16 ends in 6, 18 ends in 8 and 20 ends in 0. They are all even.
Aarya - I noticed when you are skip counting by 5’s all the numbers end in 5’s or 0’s.
Eli - When skip counting by 10’s you start with 10, you go to 20 and then you count on by 10’s.
Liam N- When we skip count by 5’s we said all the numbers we say when we skip count by 10’s. I have a multiplication chart at home that can help me- it goes all the way up to groups of 12.
Will - I can skip count to 20 by 2’s and even I would like to learn how to skip count to the 1000’s.
Olivia - That when you count by 10’s its always the number that comes after a number with the number 9. Like after 9 is 10, and after 29 is 30.
Mahli - When skip counting by 10’s its always the last number on the row. You always make sure you put the other number first before the zero.
Henry - In the twos and fives we circle all the numbers we say when we skip count by 10’s. When skip counting by 2’s we leave one gap.
Eli - When skip counting by 2’s you circle the 2 column, 4 column, 6 column, 8 column and 0 column.
Leo - we leave gaps between the twos- there are more gaps when skip counting by a bigger number.
Sophie - It takes a lot longer to get to 100 when you are skip counting by 2’s. Counting by 10’s is much faster.
Our next challenge is to realise that we can start skip counting from any number. What would the next 10 numbers be if we started skip counting by 10’s from the number 6?
