Term1,Week 4 2025
Hello Friends
We managed to make it through the hot week that was Wk. 3 in our school term. The students were inside part of Wednesday and most of Thursday last week. I complement our children for their behaviour whilst being inside during recess and lunch times and thank staff for providing activities that were engaging and stimulating while outside play was not an option.
Uniform
Our new uniform is certainly ‘looking the goods” and more and more children are being seen in the school grounds wearing it each week. I am aware of some supply issues earlier in the term however I believe these are now being rectified and uniforms are being delivered in a much timelier manner. Please remember that our uniform guidelines state that earrings must be a gold or silver ‘stud’ or ‘sleeper’ and hair ties need to be either navy blue, yellow, white or the student’s hair colour.
Sports Day
A fantastic day on the school calendar will soon be upon us. Our sports day is held at the Sacred Heart College Senior campus (Main Oval) at Somerton Park on 7 March. Please be reminded that students need to be taken directly to the oval at Sacred Heart on the morning by 8:30 am and collected by approximately 12:30pm.
Community members are most welcome to join us for the sports day activities and move around the oval with your class.
We are also seeking volunteers to help with the BBQ sausage sizzle. Without enough volunteers, we will be unable to have sausages for sale on the day.
If you are able to help, even for an hour or so, please let the Front Office know.
We look forward to our health hustle practices commencing in the courtyard over the coming week or so. Get ready to cheer your team on for the day.
CTK AGM
Our schools AGM occurs next Wednesday, 5 March and all community members are invited to attend.
Reports will be tabled and spoken to and following the AGM there will be a ‘Café Conversation’ style session where attendees will have an opportunity to sketch, draw write and reflect on the way our buildings and school could look over the coming years. A creche will be available, however we will need to know numbers and ages of children. Please let the front office know if this is applicable for you.
Parking Across Driveways
I have noticed an increase in the number of vehicles parking across the driveway of the school on Walkley Tce at the rear of the school. Please refrain from parking across this driveway as this driveway needs to have emergency vehicle access to it at all times. Parking and leaving your vehicle is prohibitive to emergency vehicles accessing the school. I have also received feedback from our neighbours that some of our community members are parking across residents’ driveways. Thank you for your co-operation in this area.
CTK Staff Commissioning Mass
On Sunday,16 February staff celebrated our Commissioning Mass at Saint Joseph’s Church – Brighton. This was an exciting mass for staff to attend as it is part of the Adelaide Diocese plan of “Being Church Together”.

In the past two weeks I have been approached by families looking to have their children baptised. Families are often led by an inquiry from their child or the desire to have all their children baptised together. Baptism is open to all and at any age. Each year we have families who choose to have their child or themselves baptised and school is often the first port of call for information and support.
Any person (child or adult) who is interested is invited to follow these steps:
- Contact myself or make directly contact to our parish-
- When you contact the parish or myself, you will be invited to meet with the Parish Associate- Nirmanthi Rupashinghe.
- With Nirmanthi you ask questions about the process and then set a date- usually a Saturday morning following the 10am mass. Baptism can take place here at school but are not the preferred option for most students.
- A period of preparation then takes place. Families can opt to prepare with Nirmanthi or school age students can prepare with me at school.
- Students who choose to prepare at school meet with me over a 3-week period and work together through a Baptism Booklet.
I invite anyone who is interested or would like to know more to make a time to meet, phone me or even catch me in the yard and I will endeavour to answer your questions.
Our parish contact is:
St Joseph’s Parish: 82967282 and ask to speak to someone about Baptism.
Sacraments- Confirmation & Holy Communion
Dates are in the process of being finalised and should be available in the next newsletter. Shortly after the dates are set enrolment forms will be given to those students who completed their First Reconciliation in 2024.
The Sacrament of First Reconciliation (a prerequisite for Confirmation and First Communion) will be offered to students in Years 4 upwards in Mid Term 3 and or Term 4 later this year.
St Jospeh’s Centenary
Our parish is 100 years old this year. The official opening of St. Joseph’s Parish Centenary celebration will begin with a Eucharistic Mass celebrated by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan on Sunday, 16th March 2025, at 9:30 AM. Following the Mass, a light lunch will be served in the Activity Centre. To assist with catering arrangements, please kindly notify the Parish Office (82967282) of your attendance by no later than Monday, 3rd March 2025. We look forward to celebrating this significant milestone with you.

BORROWING PROCEDURES
Each class has a specific borrowing day when their class teacher will visit the Library with their students. Students and parents are also able to borrow and/or return before school Mon-Thus 8.30-8.45.
· Students in R-2 borrow 2 books at a time
· Students in 3-5 borrow 3 books at a time.
Parents who wish to borrow may do so on their child’s name. (Robyn Dingle or myself will assist parents to borrow over their child’s limit.)
LIBRARY BAGS
Each student from Reception to Yr 2 is required to use a library bag when borrowing. A bag capable of holding a picture books is recommended.
· A lined library bag is preferable to guard against leaks, spills and squashed fruit.
We use a separate bag to the communication bag to avoid any confusion between class books, readers and Library books. Having 2 separate bags allows parents and students to easily locate and return books etc. to the library and not accidently into the class library and reader boxes.

Our digging pit and sandpit would love a new collection of tools. Preloved saucepans, frypans, pots and metal bowls would be gratefully received. Any metal kitchen implements or thick plastic bowls will also find a home. Any donations can be dropped off at the Front Office or the APRIM Office.
Last Friday, the Year 6 students attended an Aquatics Day at West Lakes Aquatic Centre. The students participated in kayaking, sailing, and snorkelling at West lakes and boogie boarding at Tennyson Beach. The students were led by staff from the Aquatics Centre who taught them about water safety but also provided the opportunity for all students to have a great time.

Late last year we were lucky enough to receive some money from the Parents and Friends group to continue developing our butterfly garden at the front of the school.
This space is a developing area that we hope students can access at lunchtimes, with their classes, during supervised breaks and when they are needing a quiet space. The money helped us buy some seating, fairies, wind chimes, bird baths and wind spinners and as the year progresses, we hope to add more sensory items like herbs, hammocks, and items to smell and touch.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen butterflies flying through the garden as well as caterpillars eating the Milkweed plants. We have planted specific bushes and flowers that are liked by butterflies and last year we raised our own butterflies and released them in the garden. Have a look at our beautiful garden!

Our wonderful Year 1/2 teacher, Bec Pynor, is performing again in this years Adelaide Fringe Festival. Should be an amazing show, buy your tickets and show your support!
