Term 1, Week 8 2025
Dear Christ the King School Community,
I am both excited and honoured to step into the role of Acting Principal for the next eight weeks while Mr Matt Perry takes a well-deserved holiday. I look forward to serving the Christ the King community over this time and getting to know all of you – the students, staff, and families.
Having spent the past five years as the Deputy Principal at St John the Baptist School and ten years as the Head of Junior School at St Mary’s College, I have had the privilege of working alongside incredible educators, students, and families. These roles have given me a deep appreciation for the importance of building strong, supportive relationships within a school community. During my time at Christ the King, I look forward to getting to know each of you, learning about the traditions that make this school unique, and contributing to the continued growth of the school in the spirit of care and service. It is my goal to ensure that all our students feel valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their best.
Outside of my life at school I enjoy travelling, camping holidays with my husband and two daughters, catching up with family and friends and everything true crime in documentaries and podcasts. My eldest daughter is 19 and studying Occupational Therapy at Uni and my youngest is 16 and in Year 11. They both play netball and so much of our weekend time is spent on the sidelines cheering for them. I enjoy watching all sports and if I had to pick an AFL team to support, it would be the Adelaide Crows. Hopefully Mr Perry’s favourite Essendon team can perform well while he is away.
Over the first few days I have already been made to feel so welcomed and this reflects the school value of Community. If you are in the school yard before or after school, I look forward to meeting each of you in the weeks ahead!
Warm regards,
Jo Livingstone
Acting Principal
On the weekend I had the honour of attending the launch of the 100th Centenary of our parish- St Joseph’s. I attend along with Matt Perry and families. It was wonderful to witness Ava-Marie from Yr4 process in with Matt at the start and to see Saheli and Olivia attend to the Archbishop as altar servers. The archbishop celebrated the mass and spoke of the rich history of our parish. How it was established following the arrival of a group of Mercy Nuns from the bush. They opened St Teresa’s school and soon after the parish and church were established. Our school was established in the parish by a group of Good Samaritan Sister in the late 50s. We have a very rich history and I encourage you to keep an eye out for the article to appear in an upcoming edition of the Southern Cross and our Face Book page.
If you are interested in being more involved in our active parish you may be interested in the many varied groups.
All the groups listed have been formed to provide assistance, support, encouragement & faith development for any person seeking such help. The groups function with the volunteer efforts of parishioners. New volunteers and participants are very welcome If you have any need which you think could be met by any of these groups, or if you would like to assist with any of these activities, please contact the Parish Office on (08) 8296 7292.

PROJECT COMPASSION
In each newsletter during Lent, I will highlight a story of those we are helping with our awareness and fundraising.
Lam is 27 years old from a small village in rural Vietnam who faced significant challenges due to his short stature. Growing up, Lam often felt isolated due to limited job opportunities and difficulty moving around his community. While his friends started jobs after high school, Lam stayed home with his parents, unsure if he could ever achieve his dream of becoming a graphic designer.
Everything changed when Lam joined the I-SHINE program, supported by Caritas Australia. Through this initiative, Lam completed a six-month course developing his graphic design skills. Along the way, he built confidence, made friends and gained a sense of connection.
Today, Lam runs a successful freelance graphic design business from home, serving clients worldwide and earning a steady income. Lam hopes his story will encourage other young people with disabilities to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
Lam’s journey shows how your support of Project Compassion empowers individuals to break barriers and transform their lives.

On Thursday afternoon, Year 6 students took part in a special art project with residents from Oaklands Lodge (Southern Cross Care). The art project, “Intergenerational Art” was created to connect aged care residents and school students. The students were invited to work with a resident on a portrait photograph. With mixed media, both students and residents worked at producing their own interpretations of the same portrait expressing their personal connections.
The Year 6 students were outstanding ambassadors for our school. Their kindness and patience were a real credit to them.
We are looking forward to returning to Oaklands Lodge to share our completed artworks and creating more opportunities to visit the residents in the future.
